In search of the artist within…  I had always planned to take up watercolor when I retired, when I had more time. However, none of us really has more time than today. And so I began.

Why do I paint? The colors and flow of pigments as they mingle and give shape to the subject is a fascinating process. To that end, I focus on working with what the medium does naturally – guiding rather than assuming I need to control. As I continue to learn and improve my skill, I get caught up in the process of resolving the tension between “accuracy” and the “essence” as I seek to portray the idea of my subject.

As my concern for the future of our environment grew, I decided to focus on a series of paintings I call “Hope for the Future.” As both a parent and a grandparent, I believe that we must invest in our children – give them love; encourage them to be curious, creative, and courageous; and teach them by our example to be contributing citizens in our global community. Therein lies our hope for the future.
